APC Chieftain Dismisses Opposition Coalition Against Tinubu, Calls It ‘Failed Project’
Osogbo, Osun State – An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has strongly asserted that the reported coalition being formed by opposition leaders against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid is destined for failure.
Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), made this declaration while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday.
He specifically cautioned prominent opposition figures like former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai – who are reportedly central figures in the coalition efforts – against expending resources on what he termed an “already failed project.”
According to Oyintiloye, the primary motivation behind the coalition’s formation is not the welfare of Nigerians but rather the personal ambition of the leaders involved to “revive their failing political careers.”
He did not mince words, describing the proposed alliance as merely “a gathering of expired opposition leaders.” He suggested that their motives are purely self-serving, speculating that if the President had offered them cabinet appointments, they would likely be among his most ardent supporters.
Drawing from historical context, Oyintiloye noted that the Nigerian political scene has witnessed numerous attempts at coalition-building over the past 27 years, often failing to achieve lasting success.
He argued that for any alliance to succeed in Nigeria, it requires more than just shared opposition to the incumbent. True success, he stated, demands genuine unity, strategic compromise, and long-term cohesion. Crucially, he added that the motives must be “altruistic, not parochial, not selfish,” and must incorporate effective peace and conflict management.
